Its been quite sometime since I last wrote a post on my blog and that’s because I had a hectic month with a fussy teething child, organizing and planning a baby shower and many many things in between.
Planning a baby shower can be fun but it can also be a pain when you have to conform to a budget and especially challenging when you are co-hosting with a lot of people involved. I have been to my fair share of baby showers so trust me when I say that I know all the ins and outs of hosting a baby shower on a budget.
First up is the decoration part. i cannot tell you how many times I have frequented the dollar store or 99 cents for cheap but fancy decor. You get everything from table covers to streamers, balloons and even party favor boxes. Here are some decor ideas…
This was done for my baby shower so technically I wasn’t a part of it but the hanging onesies and the lanterns look so cute. As you can see there was a color theme going on which was purple and white.
( Love this idea of a photo booth area.)
You can go all out and decorate the entire wall with streamers or balloons or flowers. The flowers above were made from poster paper by my insanely creative friend. The empty space in between was filled with her pictures.
or you can go very simple with just tassels and strings of lights.
If you get bored by the balloons and streamers all the time then you can also keep a theme related baby shower . We threw a bollywood themed shower for our friends and it was so much fun with all the colorful decor using dupattas and mirrored curtains (which you can also find on amazon) . We wrote these classic hindi film dialogues on foam dialog boxes which we again got from the dollar store and pinned them on . Everyone was also dressed up as an iconic bollywood movie character of their choice and I seriously cannot tell you how cool it was! The games included movie name dumb charades, bollywood GK etc…
If the mom to be has not announced the gender yet but would like to then you can also opt for a shower revolving around the gender of the baby with blues and pinks and games that include “guess the gender” and “team boy or team girl”.
Baby shower gifts does not have to be expensive. Go ahead and make your own gift basket, a gift hamper or a diaper cake . It does’nt have to be baby related, you can also include a mommy survival kit with all of her essentials like a hospital robe, comfy slippers,a soothing candle and stuff like that.
And don’t forget the food!!!
(can be anything from simple finger food to a proper lunch)
Make your own cake if possible to reduce the cost or let everyone pitch in to avoid burden on a single person.
And lastly the party favors which you can easily buy from the dollar store or get creative and decorate cute paper bags and fill them with goodies.
